PixelBuzz #3: ExpressionEngine 2.4 Preview
Exclusive ExpressionEngine 2.4 Feature Preview
Curious about ExpressionEngine 2.4? Wondering what new features will be included in the release? Well then you won’t want to miss this! We’ve put together a preview video just for you. This video will highlight 2 new features in ExpressionEngine 2.4. Those being, overriding upload settings via “config.php”, and the ability to add metadata to uploads on the Publish Page. Be on the lookout for ExpressionEngine 2.4 in late January.
This video is exclusive to PixelBuzz. You can watch it here:

We also caught up with our Dev Team to talk about how this round of code writing went. Here’s what developer Wes Baker said:
This was the first release after we had really figured out our rhythm and it shows. We've added some long requested features, gave third party developers better access to underlying components, and improved the maintainability of the code. Why is that important? The more we improve the core now, the more time we have to build better features later. In addition, this is the first release where you'll see contributions from the Reactor team including three new hooks, a dropdown menu under Edit so you can select a specific Channel, and all plugins have been added to the Default Text Formatting options for new fields.
We had a chance to chat with Brandon Jones on some of the developments with MojoMotor and here’s what he had to say:
We made MojoMotor friendlier, more portable, and more flexible. You can now make any page your "404 Page" so that visitors get a friendly 404. You can also override more settings via "config.php" (including file upload paths) making this the most portable release yet. And the venerable {mojo:site:page_list} tag can now list only child pages of the current page, as well as limit its output via a new depth= parameter, making your site navigation significantly more flexible.
As you can see, there is a wealth of great updates to MojoMotor! Thanks to Brandon for taking the time to enlighten us. Keep an eye out for this release of MojoMotor in the first quarter of 2012!
The CodeIgniter Conference is back! Come out February 18th and 19th for an eventful day of learning. The conference is run by CodeIgniter Reactor member Phil Sturgeon, so you know you’re in for a treat.

There is now a 'third_party_path' config override. This allows you to move your third_party folder from the default location (system/expressionengine/third_party) to the location of your choice. By moving your third_party folder out of the system folder, you can make updating EE a bit easier, removing a step from the process. Another simple yet great addition is new custom fields now default to the "None" text formatting option.
